EASTER BASKET IDEAS 2021

I feel like Easter is such a fun joyous holiday that does not get the proper recognition it deserves! To start, there is SO much less pressure on this holiday than Christmas thus making it possibly more enjoyable. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE love Christmas but I think everyone can admit it’s 50% fun and 50% stress (from the present ideas to the coordination of plans to getting it all done – it can be overwhelming). Everyone has their own Easter traditions but essentially if you get in some egg painting and an Easter egg hunt you are winning. Easter is also set in the Spring time and while I love a snowy white Christmas holiday – I really do need some sunshine when April hits. How can you not be happy with birds chirping, sun shining and tulips blooming. Oh and also, all that Easter really asks for is CHOCOLATE – like come on! What could be better that that!

This year we are celebrating Easter with our little one and I have been thinking about her Easter basket for weeks! I honestly didn’t have anything specific in mind but knew I wanted to fill it up with some fun goodies and I started collecting things at the beginning of the year. My husband has also contributed many items since he also cannot stop himself from buying all the things when it comes to this munchkin (including a Simba stuffed animal larger than this Easter basket!) We definitely make spoiling our daughter a team effort around here!

EASTER BASKET INSPIRATION: POLISH TRADITIONS

One of my favourite things about Easter (aside from the delicious food!) is getting our family Easter basket ready. Easter is all about gathering with friends and family and traditions like these get me excited for the holiday every year.

Coming from a Polish background, the Easter basket is enriched with old traditions that have been passed down for centuries. The basket is filled with the typical goodies (chocolate, decorated eggs etc.) but additional items are added in which each represent a specific meaning (described more below). As a child, I always loved the trip to the European grocery store to help pick out all the items we were adding in. Obviously I would always sneak some additional chocolate in – for good measure of course. Once the basket was put together, it was taken to be blessed before being used for Easter morning. Another favourite memory for me was the drive home after blessing. That Easter basket never stood a chance! My brother would go straight for the meat, my sister and I would split up some chocolate, someone got the bread and that was usually how it went down every year. We all had good intentions – but it never made it home in one piece!
