YOU’VE BEEN BOOED!!

Either you know what’s going on or you think I’ve gone mad but either way I will explain. I’m not sure how this fun tradition started but getting “booed” on Halloween is simply being surprised with some fun treats/toys at your doorstep. We just moved into a brand new neighbourhood (ie. a construction zone still) and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to boo one of our lovely new neighbours we just met. The kiddos have been through so much this year already and this is a little something extra special for Halloween.

I purchased my BOOED door hanger and card set from Michaels and although this was very inexpensive, it can also be printed off at home if you prefer. I then went to my local Dollarama and grabbed a few goodies for the basket. I suggest going to your local dollar store, Walmart or Target $1 bins for those lucky people in the states (bring Target back to Canada!). The whole point of these baskets is to give the kids something fun and silly and not to spend a lot of money. Alternatively you can also just fill the basket with candy but I prefer some Halloween themed items since candy will be coming in mass quantities shortly.

I found a fun green Frankenstein plastic basket that worked great and filled it up with some crafts and games. Some ideas of items that can go into the basket (all Halloween themed preferably but not necessary):

  • Colouring book
  • Stickers
  • Slime
  • Crafts
  • Halloween stories
  • Facepaint
  • Light up toys
  • Pencils and erasers
  • Notebooks
  • A few pieces of candy
  • ETC

I saw all the above items and more in the Halloween aisle at the dollarstore – there were so many things I wanted I had a hard time narrowing them down. Overall I’m sure the neighbours will love whatever you pick!

To put everything together I started by filling the basket with tissue paper and then added the items on top. I even threw in a few candies for the kids! To make it even more special I wrapped it up in cellophane paper and put in purple twinkly lights I picked up at Ikea. The end result was pretty cool – love me some twinkle lights!

Then all that’s left is to deliver the basket undetected to your neighbours house…. which is virtually impossible now a days with everyone’s Google doorbell but I gave it a good try! Haven’t run that fast in years!
