VALENTINE’S NIGHT WITH THE GIRLS

I love me a kick-ass girl’s day but it definitely does not happen enough! I feel like February is the perfect time to plan a day together, whether it consists of hosting a Galentine’s Day party or just gathering on the couch for one epic V-Day night. Don’t stress if you cannot do it near the 14th  – anytime throughout the month will work! If it’s after the 14th you get the bonus of discounted candy/chocolate – hint hint. Having everyone together is always so much fun therefore whenever you can make this happen is great!

Instead of just the typical girls night at a restaurant or hanging out without a plan – I’ve got some fun ideas gathered below:

1. Host an EPIC couch party

What could be better than chocolate, comfy clothes and a ton of hilarious episodes back to back? Seriously I can’t think of anything better at the moment and may need to stop writing and proceed to the couch this minute! Okay – I’m still here with you….for now (ha!). But seriously if you are looking for a fun low key night in with the girls this may be your jam. Tell everyone to wear something comfy (bonus points for Valentine’s Day themed items) and come to relax for the evening. Also I mean actually relax – not like at home when you say you are going to relax but just continue to think of all the items you need to finish and end up starting 5 different tasks at the same time and never get to enjoy the rest that was promised.

Pop some bubbly champagne or a nice pinot grigio and keep it simple for food. Gather the aforementioned candy/candy and some easy snacks like:

  • Popcorn – mixes great with the candy and chocolate and becomes a customized treat
  • Make an easy dip like this ONE (<– yup click here!)
  • Explore the freezer aisle for some quick ready made appetizers you can thrown in the oven
  • Buy a fruit tray…..and melt the chocolate obviously. Voila chocolate fondue!

Once you are ready – sit down and get comfortable with your “favourtie gal pal Rachel Green” (name that episode) and enjoy a fun marathon of your favourite shows – Valentine’s Day edition !

Some episodes to get you started:

  • Gilmore Girls: Season 6, Episode 15 – A Vineyard Valentine. Logan cooking lobster, Luke and Logan bonding, Martha’s Vineyard  – need I say more?
  • Friends: Season 6, Episode 17  – The One with Unagi. “I can’t believe it! Make the presents! Make the presents! I’m just so excited to make the presents!”
  • Friends: Season 8, Episode 15  – The One with the Birthing Video. “Candy’s the mother, Cookie’s the daughter. The father’s also Cookie. Why am I friends with these people!?!”
  • Modern Family: Season 1, Episode 15 – My Funky Valentine. If you haven’t watched Phil and Claire run wild with their alter egos you are in for a hilarious treat.
  • The Big Bang Theory: Season 7, Episode 15 – The Locomotive Manipulation – A vintage train ride including train sounds, train trivia and separate bedrooms  – seems like the perfect Valentine’s Day!

2. Host a Valentine’s Day Party with your friends

Hosting a party does not need to equal high maintenance – yes that is correct! It doesn’t even need to involve a ton of dish washing once everyone leaves! On Thursday I will be posting a fun Valentine’s Day tablescape that involves almost all paper plates, paper cups, paper straws etc.- everything that you can throw away after for easy cleanup. You will be surprised how cute disposable items can look! With the cleanup worry gone – take some time to decorate with some red and pink and make the place look festive. Keep dinner simple by ordering pizza or other takeout and buy some fun Valentine’s themed candy that can double as sweets and decor on the table!

3. Host a cocktail mixing class

Have you ever wanted to be able to make fun cocktails but have been too afraid to try? OR have no idea where to start!? I feel like the perfect time would be at your next girls night! An evening filled with mixing drinks (which can be made virgin of course if needed – don’t cha worry!) sounds like a blast.

I would figure out the group’s favourite alcohol (1 or 2 types is fine) and then pull a few different drinks together to experiment on. I have included a few of my favourites from around the entertaining realm below and I do also suggest checking out the websites for more inspiration!

1. WATERMELON FROSÉ from HOW SWEET EATS:

4. LIME BERRY REFRESHER from JMS ENTERTAINING (yours truly):

If you missed the recipe you can check it out HERE. If you haven’t noticed I’m going with a pink theme…..Valentine’s Day…hint hint…!

5. If you want to go back to the basics which is just as fun then check out the website called LIQUOR HERE. It has a great list of drinks that will help get you started. Another fun website to check out is SOCIAL AND COCKTAIL. They have the top 100 cocktails listed HERE.

JMS TIP: Don’t be afraid to just mix your own items together. Sometimes you will be surprised how amazing the drink can turn out!

4. Host a cookie/dessert exchange party

I feel like cookie/dessert exchange parties are only thought of during December and other months fall to the waste side. February is literally the perfect month! The crazy Christmas sugar rush has disappeared and we could all use a hit of our favourite desserts. Therefore Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse for more treats -bonus points for heart shaped cookies! Gather your friends together and have them bring a few dozen of their favourite homemade or store bought (no judgement) treats. Everyone will leave with a sugar rush and the evening will be a success!

Are you hosting a Valentine’s girls night? I would love to hear your fun girls day ideas!
