NUTELLA CAKE POPS

Have you heard of the saying “You can’t please everyone, you are not Nutella!” – well today folks, the day has come. We officially have Nutella cake pops live on the site and there should only be happiness surrounding this day!

I am exaggerating (if ever so slightly) but my love for Nutella does run strong – I usually only allow myself to have it in the house once or twice a year otherwise I will eat the whole jar and nobody needs that! As tomorrow is the ever so exciting New Year’s Eve and if you are still looking for a last minute dessert this recipe below is quite easy to put together. And you can match it to any colour theme you have going on!

Overall the recipe is straight forward and does not require many ingredients but it does take some time as you need to actually wait for the cake to bake and the balls to freeze. If you have time throughout the day and can do other things in between then I would definitely suggest trying it. If you are pressed for time then I will be honest and advise you save this one for another day – but don’t forget it!

Putting together these cake pops was really fun because its a three step process and every step is completely different from the last. You get to really do something different at every step which makes for a fun experience. When I first started mixing the crumbled cake together with the Nutella, I was not sure if the recipe was heading in the right direction but stay positive and keep mixing – eventually it all comes together nicely.

I choose to add on silver, black and white sprinkles to match my tablescape I had created but feel free to leave them just covered in chocolate or add on whatever sprinkles you prefer. You can also be very creative and melt 3 different chocolates (dark, regular, white) and dip the pops into each of them forming a layer of each!

These cake pops are a great treat to make for a party or to bring to a potluck – they travel quite well!

JMS TIP: These cake pops freeze great! If you do not need the full batch,
pop them into your freezer and pull them out when needed!

What are your favourite cake pop flavours? I would love to experiment with new ideas!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Flour
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Power
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 cup Butter (unsalted)
  • 1 cup Milk (any kind)
  • 1 cup Nutella (overflowing)
  • 300 grams Chocolate
  • 1 set Sprinkes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F.

  2. Add the flour, baking powder and baking soda into one bowl – stir together.

  3. In a separate bowl add sugar, eggs, butter and vanilla extract. Beat together for 1 minute until combined and creamed together.

  4. Add dry ingredients into the bowl along with the cup of milk. Stir well until combined.

  5. Grease 9-inch baking pan and add the batter in. Bake for 35-40 mins.

JMS TIP: All ovens are SO different and can bake at different levels. Once you hit 30 mins I would suggest keeping an eye out on the cake because you may require less time. You will know the cake is done when you can insert a toothpick into it and it comes out clean.

  6. Set cake aside to cool  – at least 1-2 hours

  7. Once cooled – take cake into a large bow and break into tiny tiny pieces. All large lumps should be eliminated and fine crumbs should remain.

  8. Add in 1 heaping cup of Nutella into the mixture and combine with the cake crumbs. This takes some time but keep combing together until no crumbs are left and the mixture can be rolled into balls.

  9. Take 1 tablespoon of the “batter” (does not need to be measured – just approx) and roll into small balls. Place on baking sheet to freeze. Repeat until all the dough has been formed into the cake balls.

  10. Put sticks into balls and freeze for 45 mins to 1 hour.

  11. When you are ready to pull out the balls, melt your chocolate using a glass bowl or double boiler.

  12. Dip ball into melted chocolate and add sprinkles (optional).

  13. Have a styofoam square or other type of box ready to insert your cake pops for drying.

  14. Since the balls are frozen the chocolate will harden quite easily in a few minutes. Place in fridge for additional help in hardening the chocolate.

  15. Enjoy!
