When having people over I love trying new things and making at least one item on the menu really stand out. Usually I pick between the appetizers or desserts and try to make them unique. These chocolate bowls are the perfect way to make your next dessert extra special! They only involve a few steps and can be prepared ahead of time as well. Use your imagination with the filling – just try to avoid hot items unless you really want a large melting mess!
As I’ve mentioned before I really love party decor….like a lot…hence me setting up this good ol website! I love planning party decor even more when it involves friends! Our good friends, Kusala and Marcus, were planning their adorable son’s Theo’s 1st birthday party and I had the opportunity to help with the decor setup! There was a large area in the venue where we wanted to fill space and create a photo zone that people can mingle around and take pictures at. I came up with the idea of making some life size ABC blocks that would occupy the empty space but also fit well into the children’s party theme.
My main focus on JMS Entertaining is to help simplify your life when it comes to party planning and entertaining ideas! I try to share recipes that allow for ahead prep and are easy to put together once guests arrive. Another way of easy entertaining is showcasing resources that help with regards to decor and party setup. I understand not everyone has time to make a 10 foot balloon backdrop or hand glue buttons on everyone’s party hat….and that’s ok!
I’m not sure if you are aware but IKEA has ventured into the party supply business. I’m loving it but I was originally surprised – not like they haven’t covered every other product possible already! They have started selling “party in a box” type products which provide you the basics to create a fun kids’ themed party. This is great for people that just do not have the time to go out and buy every single item separately to put together the party theme themselves. The kit I purchased was a woodland creatures version and it is adorable!
Welcome to the second installment of JMS HEARTS! With Easter this weekend and Spring around the corner, I am getting so excited for the entertaining season to start up again. I always feel there is a lull between Christmas and Easter (I mean sometimes we do need a break!) but the warmer weather has me excited for patio season, summer brunches and all things entertaining!
If you are new here – JMS HEARTS is a monthly feature that I have created which showcases all my entertaining favourite finds from the month….aka everything that I heart ♥!
One of my favourite things about Easter (aside from the delicious food!) is getting our family Easter basket ready. Easter is all about gathering with friends and family and traditions like these get me excited for the holiday every year.
Coming from a Polish background, the Easter basket is enriched with old traditions that have been passed down for centuries. The basket is filled with the typical goodies (chocolate, decorated eggs etc.) but additional items are added in which each represent a specific meaning (described more below). As a child, I always loved the trip to the European grocery store to help pick out all the items we were adding in. Obviously I would always sneak some additional chocolate in – for good measure of course. Once the basket was put together, it was taken to be blessed before being used for Easter morning. Another favourite memory for me was the drive home after blessing. That Easter basket never stood a chance! My brother would go straight for the meat, my sister and I would split up some chocolate, someone got the bread and that was usually how it went down every year. We all had good intentions – but it never made it home in one piece!
