Welcome back to another edition of JMS Hearts! I feel like it’s been forever since I checked out things in store and online – I think everyone becomes a bit of a hermit crab after the Christmas holidays. After all that shopping (and spending!) I feel like I just don’t want to buy anything ever again. That feeling, of course, passes (ha!) and as the adorable pink and red hearts appear on the scene for Valentine’s Day I became infatuated with all the new pretty offerings. Thanksgiving is right around the corner here in Canada and it feels like it came quite early this year. Our traditions are pretty low key around this time of year, mainly involving getting together with family for the big ol’ turkey dinner (although half of us are vegetarian/vegans so the turkeys a little smaller nowadays!) and fitting in some fun Oktoberfest time. The city we are from celebrates Oktoberfest in a big way and we thoroughly enjoy it!
I love decorating for all holidays and seasons and Thanksgiving is no exception. Knowing the fall season was going to come in full force I wanted to start planning my Thanksgiving table early on. I am so excited to share this year’s Thanksgiving tablescape because I had the pleasure of coordinating with Kusala from Kukaru Designs on it! If you have not checked out Kusala’s website yet she provides tutorials on sewing and knitting and has various resources available on www.kukarudesigns.com. She also has a scrunchie tutorial that I have been eyeing and just may have to attempt shortly!
We started brainstorming this tablescape weeks ago and we knew we wanted to do something different than the typical fall colours. We both love the fall season and we’re excited to collaborate on this gorgeous tablescape! Whenever I throw a dinner party I always try to look around the house to see if there are items I can use to incorporate into the decor. You’d be surprised how many things you have around the house that look great if you just style them a little differently. Specifically speaking – have you looked at your fruit bowl lately? You know that lovely pineapple that is about to go bad (am I the only one that has SO much trouble cutting these damm things up before their time expires?) or that delicious watermelon = those are your future flower vases! Fruits can be used in so many different fun ways and today I will show you just that!
I enjoy decorating with fruit as well as using it in my party menus – hello fruit water tower! Sidenote – is there anything better than fruit flavoured water? (I mean not counting sangria of course). I could do a whole post of my favourite flavoured water combinations for entertaining but I’ll save that for another day. When it comes to decorating with fruits I love to use citrus kinds as the bright colours provide an amazing pop of life on a sometimes plain looking table. I dream that one day I will own that villa in Tuscany which will be surrounded by beautiful lemon trees which I can venture to anytime I need fresh juicy lemons. As of right now – I get my butt down to the local farmers market and indulge in some freshly picked fruits.
When it comes to birthday party decor, I feel that balloons and glitter are two main components of a great time! Last week I shared an easy DIY Confetti Balloon Tutorial and in the spirit of just celebrating my birthday I am sharing another fun party trick.
Summer has arrived in full force and I am so excited to start enjoying our patio! Summer entertaining is always the best – the feel is more casual and the food is amazingly fresh. People seem to be more relaxed and enjoy just sitting outside together for hours. My favourite thing is to gather everyone in the backyard and host an amazing BBQ – people can enjoy themselves in the fresh air and cleanup is a breeze! Our current house does not have a backyard option but we will be moving in 2019 and I am so excited to plan our summer parties. Chilled Sangria anyone? All the items below have really caught my eye for the summer and I can see them in various entertaining options.
