Throwing a party is always fun but adding in your own special diy touches really makes the difference for me. Today’s post has a fun diy that can be done three different ways and helps solve a problem that occurs quite often at parties!
One recurring issue I do see happening during parties often is guests forgetting what glass is theirs and moving on to another one. Now I don’t want to seem like a Grinch when it comes to cups (you want three…go ahead!) but I am trying to avoid the a) extra cleanup when it comes to things leftover – how does 8 guests equal 23 glasses??) and b) the waste. There are numerous times where I have dumped glasses still filled to the brim of alcohol and other liquid delights. I have definitely also been at events where I have placed my cup down for a moment on a busy table and lost track of it as well.
There is an easy fix for this! Individual cocktail drink stir sticks – see below for all the fun customizable details. Your guests can choose their favourite colours and never forget what drink is theirs in the future!
There are so many amazing party shops on Etsy that provide such unique items and products. I love browsing them and using the images as inspiration to bring together tablescapes and party designs. Sometimes just walking through the aisles of Michaels or browsing through the pages of Etsy help reenergize my mind and inspire a new creation from the smallest product. A colourful fabric can be the start of a small idea that turns into a full creative party table – that’s what I love about this business! Getting to be creative and using my imagination is definitely the best part!
My goal one day is to open up my own Etsy shop with various party inspiration but until that becomes a reality I can’t wait to share these below! I have purchased from some shops and been eyeing products at others. All are filled with unique party supplies that will definitely raise the bar at your next party!
One of my favourite parts of a party (aside from the great company and fun) is the dessert table! Cakes, candy, cupcakes oh my….how can you ever go wrong? Aside from decor, it is one of the spots you can be creative and even incorporate your party colours of choice. There are so many options to choose from and you can really make it whatever you want. Over the past few years candy tables have really gotten popular (thank you Pinterest!) and many stores now carry various items to help in planning them. There are fun banners, signs, jars, labels etc. available to help with your vision.
The specific candy bar below was for our close friend’s grandma’s 100th birthday! Can you believe 100!? It’s hard to even imagine, especially in this fast paced moving world we live in. It was an honour to attend the party and help out for such a wonderful occasion! The party decor colours were an elegant gold and white and we wanted the candy bar to reflect the same colours. Surprisingly there were plenty of gold and white options to choose from because sometimes the gold colour can be limiting. I had a chance to setup the candy bar at home and wanted to share some tips to help with your future candy bar setups. I still needed to add in labels, scoops and gold candy grab bags but the important items (the candy!) was there.
One thing I always try to keep on hand are thank you cards. Whenever I can, I love to send a quick note of thanks when appropriate. It’s the little extra touch that really shows you appreciate the person and their hard work.
I also think thank you notes are NOT a thing of the past! Whether a hand written card or a cute label on a small gift – the gesture goes a long way! This week I have created these simple Thank You tags that you can use for all future gifts/favours. Whether it’s attached to a box of cookies or to a single flower daisy picked from the garden – it’s the thought that counts.
Whenever I throw a dinner party I always try to look around the house to see if there are items I can use to incorporate into the decor. You’d be surprised how many things you have around the house that look great if you just style them a little differently. Specifically speaking – have you looked at your fruit bowl lately? You know that lovely pineapple that is about to go bad (am I the only one that has SO much trouble cutting these damm things up before their time expires?) or that delicious watermelon = those are your future flower vases! Fruits can be used in so many different fun ways and today I will show you just that!
I enjoy decorating with fruit as well as using it in my party menus – hello fruit water tower! Sidenote – is there anything better than fruit flavoured water? (I mean not counting sangria of course). I could do a whole post of my favourite flavoured water combinations for entertaining but I’ll save that for another day. When it comes to decorating with fruits I love to use citrus kinds as the bright colours provide an amazing pop of life on a sometimes plain looking table. I dream that one day I will own that villa in Tuscany which will be surrounded by beautiful lemon trees which I can venture to anytime I need fresh juicy lemons. As of right now – I get my butt down to the local farmers market and indulge in some freshly picked fruits.
