THANKSGIVING TABLESCAPE: OLIVE GREEN & GOLD THEME

Thanksgiving is right around the corner here in Canada and it feels like it came quite early this year. Our traditions are pretty low key around this time of year, mainly involving getting together with family for the big ol’ turkey dinner (although half of us are vegetarian/vegans so the turkeys a little smaller nowadays!) and fitting in some fun Oktoberfest time. The city we are from celebrates Oktoberfest in a big way and we thoroughly enjoy it!

I love decorating for all holidays and seasons and Thanksgiving is no exception. Knowing the fall season was going to come in full force I wanted to start planning my Thanksgiving table early on. I am so excited to share this year’s Thanksgiving tablescape because I had the pleasure of coordinating with Kusala from Kukaru Designs on it! If you have not checked out Kusala’s website yet she provides tutorials on sewing and knitting and has various resources available on www.kukarudesigns.com. She also has a scrunchie tutorial that I have been eyeing and just may have to attempt shortly!

We started brainstorming this tablescape weeks ago and we knew we wanted to do something different than the typical fall colours. We both love the fall season and we’re excited to collaborate on this gorgeous tablescape! I hope you enjoy what we came up with because its really starting to feel like fall over here and we are in the celebrating mood. Check out all the fun details below!

ENTERTAINING BUCKET LIST: FALL EDITION

Continuing in the tradition of Entertaining Bucket Lists here on JMS, I am thrilled to bring out our Fall 2018 one! Fall is my favourite season and I am so excited to start thinking about pumpkins and cozy recipes for entertaining. As the weather starts to dip at night, I am reminded more and more of Fall and I cannot wait to start diving into this Entertaining Bucket List. Fall is officially here on September 22 (this week yay!) therefore get your candles and fuzzy blankets out and start setting that cozy ambiance.

Fun Fact: I absolutely hate everything pumpkin and pumpkin spice (shocker!) but I still adore this season so much! My husband on the other hand lovesss everything pumpkin/pumpkin spice, therefore, he eats/tests out every fun new thing that comes out in the season. Gotta make sure those pumpkin spice lattes are still purchased by one of us!

If you are new here, I created the seasonal Entertaining Bucket List because every season throughout the year brings on new adventures and fun activities to be tackled. I love me a good bucket list and I have seen so many pop up on Pinterest lately. They are pretty much all encompassing which is great but I wanted to create a special one for entertaining specifically. Most of the items I want to do each month involve friends, family and food so it’s a perfect fit! You can do the below on your own but having people over to enjoy the activities makes it that more special.

Whether you add these items to your main bucket list for the Fall or keep them separate – they are sure to be a lot of fun for all!

THREE CHEESE MINI NACHOS

As the days get cooler, you can feel Fall is just around the corner and football season is upon us! My husband loves watching the sport and I have been drawn in myself as well. More so than watching the games (which are always fun) I love planning the food spread. Fall brings the feeling of comfort food and nachos are definitely on that list!

When having people over throughout the season I like to serve something warm (and cheesy preferably) and this recipe checks both those boxes! Since sometimes sharing a large platter can be awkward, l am serving the next round of nachos in individual mini bowls so everyone can have their own bite! This gives you your own portion of melted cheese goodness – how can you go wrong with that?!

WHITE AND GOLD CANDY BAR

One of my favourite parts of a party (aside from the great company and fun) is the dessert table! Cakes, candy, cupcakes oh my….how can you ever go wrong? Aside from decor, it is one of the spots you can be creative and even incorporate your party colours of choice. There are so many options to choose from and you can really make it whatever you want. Over the past few years candy tables have really gotten popular (thank you Pinterest!) and many stores now carry various items to help in planning them. There are fun banners, signs, jars, labels etc. available to help with your vision.

The specific candy bar below was for our close friend’s grandma’s 100th birthday! Can you believe 100!? It’s hard to even imagine, especially in this fast paced moving world we live in. It was an honour to attend the party and help out for such a wonderful occasion!  The party decor colours were an elegant gold and white and we wanted the candy bar to reflect the same colours. Surprisingly there were plenty of gold and white options to choose from because sometimes the gold colour can be limiting. I had a chance to setup the candy bar at home and wanted to share some tips to help with your future candy bar setups. I still needed to add in labels, scoops and gold candy grab bags but the important items (the candy!) was there.
